The ELLE & Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Awards, launched in 2000, are aimed at paying tribute to South African women who empower their communities and make a visible difference to the people they help.  Many hundreds of entries were received and 10 finalists were selected to attend the awards presentation in Cape Town, sponsored this year by 1st For Women, Elizabeth Arden and Truworths.

Elle editor Jacqui Myburgh-Chemaly praised the 10 finalists for their inspiring work, saying they are "remarkable community builders" who contribute towards the upliftment and development of South Africa at a grassroots level.  Debbie said she was honoured to win the award and to have been chosen from the group of finalists.  However, Debbie acknowledged "this isn't individual achievement but a combined effort - co-founder Eric Shezi, the community and funders have all played a vital role in the success of the project and I thank God for his favour and protection".
