Bongimpilo Creche
Graduation Day
The year ended on a high note for the 72
children at Bongimpilo Creche who celebrated the graduation of the
older children with a festive ceremony which included song and dance.
Gift bags were gratefully received from
Maris Stella School and Gayle Winship.
The day ended with a cooked lunch for all
the parents and extended family and despite having no electricity on
the day, a great time was had by all (thanks to the gas cooker!)

Sethani
Summer Games
The Summer Games were held during the
last 3 weeks of November after the examinations. Young people from
5 different areas of KwaNgcolosi competed against one another in
various sports and fun activities - netball, soccer, darts, tug of
war, debate. The aim of the games was to provide something for the
young people to do whilst not attending school and to establish
"hubs" of youth in the 5 areas. Leaders from each area emerged and
it is hoped that small youth clubs will establish as satellites to
address the issues of the youth in their area, as it's not always
possible for young people to walk to the Sethani Centre each day.
Thanks to Inkosi Bhengu for donating the Ndabizitha Cup and other
trophies and to the SEM Trust for the medals. |

Blue
Eagles Cricket Team - Historymakers!
The first cricket team to be
established in KwaNgcolosi. An enthusiastic group of 30 boys are
dedicated to practise three times a week under the watchful eye of
coach Khumbulani Mkize and Manager Nje Mazibuko of Sethani. They
are now proud owners of a set of wickets, new bats, pads and gloves
thanks to Sethani UK - there's still an urgent need for a
pitch/grass mat! |

Eton Visit 2007
We
were privileged to host 38 boys and 5 masters from Eton College,
UK, during their rugby tour to South Africa. In 2005 we hosted a
hockey tour from Eton, so we were pleased to strengthen the
relationship we have with this school. The Tour Party raised
funds for a new passenger vehicle for Sethani which is desperately
needed in all aspects of the project. They visited the Sethani
Centre for a day and a half, joining in with a newly-formed cricket
team, known as the Blue Eagles. The boys camped overnight at the
Inanda Dam, singing songs around the campfire, rap-dancing and kicking
footballs! The Eton boys worked very hard under the winter sun,
painting, digging and levelling a soccer field. We are extremely
grateful to the parents, boys and masters from Eton College who can be
very proud of their achievements and we wish them well for the rest of
their tour.
