Orphan Outreach

500 orphaned or vulnerable children (OVC) in 150 families are supported, impacting over 3000 people directly and the community as a whole.

Support is given to caregivers or extended family to enable them to raise these children within their community of origin rather than moving them to orphanages.

Families in crisis are identified by local community structures (health workers and educators) and are supported with food parcels, school uniforms and school stationery.

They are visited, monitored and counselled where necessary.  We seek to empower families to avoid dependence on handouts and to ensure that poverty is not perpetuated.

Starfish Painting Day

During the July school holidays, 22 Sethani children between the ages of 11 and 14 took part in a fun painting day at the Sethani Centre.

At the request of Starfish UK, the children painted 250 ceramic starfish which will be given as a memento to each guest attending a gala fundraising dinner to be hosted by Starfish UK in London later this year.

Each child was given a paint brush, paints and a pile of ceramic starfish and encouraged to decorate them with as many different colours and patterns as possible.

The results were wonderful and the children had lots of fun showing off their creative talents!

Child Protection Week Awareness Walk

On 8 July, children from the area walked through the community in an effort to raise awareness during Child Protection Week.  Posters and placards displaying appropriate messages about the prevention of child abuse and the protection of the rights of children were carried by the walkers.

The Walk started out from the Sethani Centre and continued along the roads surrounding the Centre and through the community of KwaNgcolosi.  After the Walk, the children enjoyed refreshments and ministry in the Sethani hall.
