TB Awareness Campaign

A very successful TB Awareness Campaign was organised by our peer educators in June.

Peer educators from three high schools met at the Maphepheteni Clinic for training one Saturday morning and went door-to-door into the community the following day, handing out pamphlets and juice bottles from TB FREE and conducting a survey of those they visited.

Despite unseasonally cold and wet weather conditions, the peer educators were well-received and many people were encouraged to attend the clinic for TB testing.

July Winter Soccer Tournament

During the July school holidays, a successful two-week soccer tournament was organised by Sethani staff member, Phumlani Cindy.

Over 280 boys aged 11-19 from KwaNgcolosi took part in the event and the winning team received awards sponsored by Telkom.

“The action, passion, drama and excite were in abundance,” said an overjoyed Phumlani. “The community was also highly appreciative and Sethani hit the right mark. “

Fred Mkize and Jay Ramlal of Telkom Sports attended the presentation ceremony and Fred spoke out strongly against the use of drugs and alcohol.

The passion shown by the players was highly commended and Fred committed Telkom to annual sponsorship of this event.

Peer Education Exchange

Sethani is very proud to announce that two of our peer educators have been chosen to travel to Australia as part of the Schools 4 Schools Partnership Exchange.  Sabelo Mthethewa from KwaVutha High School and Nonsikelelo Ndletshe from Hlahlindlela High School were both chosen from the five KwaNgcolosi High Schools participating in the GoLD Peer Education programme.

We are delighted that Sabelo and Nonsikelelo have been chosen to represent the youth of our region.
